UK photographer living in Barcelona, specialising in destination weddings
Documentary Wedding Photography for UK Couples Getting Married in Spain
I’m a destination wedding photographer based in Barcelona, originally from the UK, specialising in documentary-style wedding photography for couples who value real moments over staged ones.
Barcelona is one of Europe’s most exciting wedding destinations — and the city I chose to settle in after years of travelling around the world. I fell in love with its historic architecture, relaxed energy and Mediterranean light, which is an absolute dream for wedding photography.
While Barcelona is home, the UK will always feel like a second home to me. That mix — British roots and life in Spain — allows me to work seamlessly with UK couples planning destination weddings.
From elegant city venues and coastal celebrations to countryside masías just outside the city, Barcelona offers an incredible setting for couples getting married in Spain.
Why Choose Barcelona for Your Destination Wedding
Barcelona offers a rare combination of culture, scenery and accessibility — all in one place.
Couples choose Barcelona for:
Easy travel connections for international guests
A relaxed yet stylish atmosphere
Mediterranean light and a warm climate
A wide range of venues, from urban rooftops to countryside estates
It’s also a dream city to photograph. I shoot a lot of street photography, and Barcelona constantly inspires me — the light, movement and layers of life here naturally translate into honest, story-driven wedding photography.
Documentary Wedding Photography in Barcelona
Documentary wedding photography is about telling the story of your day exactly as it happens — naturally, honestly and without interruption.
Rather than directing or posing, I focus on:
The quiet, in-between moments that often matter most
Capturing your wedding day as a complete, honest story
Genuine emotions and real interactions
Natural movement and atmosphere
This approach works especially well in Barcelona, where weddings often flow through multiple spaces — city streets, courtyards, terraces and outdoor celebrations.
I’ve written a more in-depth article about how I work as a documentary wedding photographer.
A UK Background, Based in Barcelona
Before relocating to Spain, I spent over a decade working as a photojournalist in the UK, photographing real people and real events. That experience shapes how I photograph weddings today — anticipating moments, staying unobtrusive and working instinctively in fast-changing light.
Photojournalism teaches you to be quick on your feet. At protests, events or live situations, moments happen once — and weddings are very similar. Everything moves quickly, emotions run high, and the most meaningful moments are often unrepeatable.
I’m also meticulous about my equipment. I work with top-of-the-line Canon cameras and prime lenses, and I regularly use flash photography to elevate images — especially during evening celebrations and first dances. Strong light has always been part of my visual style. When I was 12, my dad gave me a digital camera and told me to shoot into the light — and I never stopped. Studying photography at degree level also gave me a strong technical foundation alongside instinctive storytelling.
Being based in Barcelona means:
Local knowledge of venues and logistics
Regular work throughout Catalonia and Spain
Being UK-born means I understand:
British and international wedding expectations
Destination wedding planning from abroad
Multicultural guest lists and timelines
A calm, experienced presence on your wedding day
What Couples Look for in a Barcelona Destination Wedding Photographer
Couples planning destination weddings in Barcelona often tell me they want:
Images that feel emotional, not overly styled
A visual story they’ll treasure for decades
Photography that doesn’t interrupt the day
Someone discreet, experienced and relaxed
Documentary photography allows you to be fully present — while your wedding is captured exactly as it felt.
